There has been a mill on this site since the 13th century and possibly earlier. From about 1240 the mill was used for fulling in the cloth trade until it was converted to a corn mill in 1746 and then to an iron forge in 1753. It was changed back to a corn mill from 1850 to 1890 and then used as a laundry until it was demolished by the local council in 1937.
All that remains is the water wheel, still turning, and one of the sluice gates nearby.
A wooden statue of a miller stands nearby (artist unknown).
