There are a number of reasons why a pub might get this name.
The Hen and Chickens was a term used to refer to the Pleiads, a group of stars in the constellation of Taurus in the 16th century. Later the term was used to a flower, in fact a daisy such as the London Pride ( (visit link) and later still, a child's game. It was a term also used to describe a many wheeled, pedalled, delivery vehicle used for a short time by the post office.
