This is probably the most famous and well known weather vane in the world - by those that like cricket anyway. It shows Father Time removing, or is it replacing, a bail on a set of cricket stumps.

Lord's Cricket Ground is the home of cricket in
England as well as being the home to Middlesex Cricket Club. The weather vane is
located on the Mound Stand on the south eastern side of the ground and has been
resident at the ground since 1926. The weather vane shows Old Father Time with
his scythe over his shoulder, a walking stick and his familiar straggly beard.
He is in the act of removing a bail from a set of cricket stumps. A cricket ball
sits on the "wicket" towards the pointer. There is some ornate scrolled iron
work beneath Old Father Time where the compass points are located. The weather
vane is painted black apart from the scythe, the cricket ball, the direction
pointer and the compass directions.
Old Father Time must be one of a few weather vanes that has its own Facebook and
Twitter accounts. He even has a blog (visit
link) that reads:
"Name: Father Time or Old Father Time (but
I'm not that old!)
Age: 84
Height: 5'4" (6'6" if you include all the weathervane)
Hobbies: Watching cricket; meteorology
Likes: Cricket (obviously); 'Tweeting' to all my friends; WG Grace (a great
cricketer and very chatty still - for a statue)
Dislikes: Lightning and balloons (see below)
Did you know...
I was donated to MCC & Lord's by the famous architect Sir Herbert Baker in 1926.
Since then I have enjoyed the best views at the world-famous Lord's Cricket
Ground.
If it happens at Lord's I'll know about it. I 'Tweet' on all the major matches
and throughout the year.
I've only ever left my viewpoint on three occasions:
1. During World War II: I was the only casualty at Lord's when I got caught up
in the cables of a barrage balloon and was wrenched from the top of the Grand
Stand (where I used to live).
2. In 1992 I was struck by lightning! Luckily the MCC Works Department soon
returned me to full health but whilst I was being patched up I went to see those
lovely people on Blue Peter - hardly my first time on TV...
3. A few years later I moved from the old Grand Stand to my current home, atop
the Mound Stand
You can follow me on Twitter
and be my fan on Facebook!
I've got my own clothing range (much better than all those 'celebrities'). From
shirts and ties to socks and jackets - all with me on!"
