Long Description:
The Old City Hall and Jail building located in downtown Prague was constructed in 1936 with the assistance of the Public Works Administration (PWA). The building has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places (98000732).

This is a one-story brick building, in the Mission Spanish Colonial Revival style of architecture. It was originally constructed to house the Police Court, Jail, Fire Department Garage, City Clerk's office and a large Council Chamber. The first town meetings were held in March, 1937. The Prague Police Department occupies the building today, with the municipal offices having moved to another location in town. The building has a stone name plate above the entrance which reads CITY HALL.

The town of Prague was established in 1902 and settled by Czech immigrants. It is governed by a Mayor and City Council. Prague is the home of famous athlete Jim Thorpe.
