Calvary Catholic Cemetery is a lovely cemetery of approximately 4300 burials. Numerous statues and monuments have been placed here, including this area which is set up for cremation plaques.
This is a concrete circle approximately 20 feet in diameter, Six stone pillars about thirty inches square surround the circle, each with black marble panels able to have flowers and names mounted. The pillars are connected at the top by a large stone ring, leaving the top open to the sky.
At the center of the circle is a circular stone and marble base about five feet high. Atop this is a bronze sculpture of a kneeling Christ. He is leaning against a large rock and has His hands clasped in prayer. This is the traditional pose of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane. The sculpture is life-sized and shows Christ in a robe, with a short trimmed beard. The name "Matthews" is engraved at the base of the sculpture.
A concrete path leads away from the monument to the north, and has stone markers in gravel on each side of the path.
