The Saratoga Historical Foundation unveiled its One-Room Schoolhouse to the community on March 29, 2012 at an opening reception at the Saratoga History Museum. The little white building, topped with a cupola and operating school bell, was renovated inside and out using funds from a
Farrington Historical Foundation grant.
The new schoolhouse features a working bell in a bell tower, an 1854 map of the US Territories, original bookcase from the Oak Street Grammar School, pot belly stove, McGuffey readers and slates. The schoolhouse will be used by the education program for teaching local history to school children, scouts, and other groups. The classes also take place in the historic McWilliams House, an 1850’s pioneer cottage with period furniture.
It is open to the public from 1-4 PM on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday or the same times as the Saratoga History Museum.
