This is a newer memorial in a newer park in Fayetteville, Freedom Memorial Park. The park has separate memorials for WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
The Cumberland County World War I Memorial is shaped like a giant open book that stands about six feet tall, and lists the names of the 17 Cumberland County soldiers who gave their lives for their country in World War I. It also includes the memorable poem "In Flanders Field" The text of the poem by Canadian Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD, can be found HERE and is a fitting addition to this memorial. (McCrae also died in World War I of pneumonia.)
To record your own visit to this waymark, take and post your own photo of the memorial and upload it with your log. Logs must contains a photo or photos as proof of your visit, please.
