Although the history of Zbýšov reaches back to late Stone Age, first written records of its existence appear around 1280.

Discovery of coal in the area around 1820 led to great development of the settlement. The first mining company Rahnova, later called Láska Boží (“God´s Love”) started mining in this area. During the following 200 years the area had undergone great development. Mining flats, a school, a post office and a mining house were built and the St. Martin church was reconstructed. The village received a town status in1965 and now counts almost 4 000 inhabitants.

The end of coal mining in 1992 sharply affected the life of local inhabitants. Now, only the preserved mining towers of the Henry II and Simson mines.

Prestože historie Zbýšova sahá až do pozdní doby kamenné, první písemná zmínka o jeho existenci se datuje kolem roku 1280.

Objev uhlí v oblasti okolo roku 1820 vedla k velkému rozvoji oblasti.
Težbu v této oblasti zacala jako první težební spolecnosti Rahnova, pozdeji nazvaná Láska Boží. Behem následujících 200 let obec prošla velkými zmenami. Byla postaveny byty a domky pro horníky, škola, poštanebo došlo k rekonstrukci kostela sv. Martina. Obec získala statut mesta až v roce 1965 a nyní cítá témer 4 000 obyvatel.

Konec težby uhlí v roce 1992 výrazne ovlivnil život místních obyvatel. Nyní tuto dobu pripomínají jen zachovalé težní veže bývalých dolu Simson a Jindrich II.
