Built on a small outcropping in the Pacific Ocean, this garden setting is a memorial to surfing. In addition to the surfer and longboard sculpture, there two benches and plaques memorializing surfing and surfers. The back of one bench is inscribed with the words:

In memory of
ALL SURFERS WHO HAVE
CAUGHT THEIR LAST WAVE...
SANTA CRUZ SURFING CLUB

A nearby plaque reads:

This Monument is dedicated to all surfers
-past, present, and future.

The inspiration came from members of the
Santa Cruz Surfing Club, founded in 1936.

The fulfillment of the dream was the work of numerous citizens
who recognize the significance of surfing within our community.
