Lighthouse Field State Beach, north of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, encompasses a flat, natural field area with walking trails between West Cliff Drive and Pelton Avenue. There are several access points around the field. A bicycle-pedestrian trail follows West Cliff Drive across from the field. There are parking spaces at several spots along West Cliff Drive and parking is free.
The cliffs across West Cliff Drive overlook Steamer Lane, a famous Santa Cruz surfing location. There are stairways from the cliff tops down to small beaches that appear at low tide.
Lighthouse Field State Beach also has the distinction of being home to the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum and the Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse.
