Instead of a wooden box or an ammo can nailed to a tree, this trail register is a large U.S. Post Office certified mail box!
Usually trail registers are within a couple hundred meters of a road/trail intersection, but this is on top of a hill, over a mile from a road. Is this register here because a survey marker (STA elevation marker) is a couple meters away?
I logged in at 10:04 July 7, 2012 a little over an hour after I started my hike.
