Die Festung Nauders war in den Kriegen 1848, 1859, 1866 und das letzte mal zum Beginn des Krieges gegen Italien 1915 verteidigungsbereit armiert. Die Festungsgeschütze waren kasemattiert und so angeordnet, dass sie die möglichen Aufstellungsplätze gegnerischer Artillerie, sowie der Vorfeld gegen einen Infanterieangriff sichern konnten. Das Vorfeld konnte mit einem 30-cm Azetylenscheinwerfer und Leuchtpatronen ausgeleuchtet werden. Die Wasserversorgung wurde mit einer Saugpumpe aus dem Stillebach bewerkstelligt.
