The Belleville Armouries was constructed in 1907. The incumbent militia unit was the XV Battalion, the Argyll Light Infantry. This unit was demobilized during the Canadian Militia reorganization of the 1930's and replaced by the newly-formed Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment.
This unit was mobilized and served with distinction in WW2. The regiment was returned to reserve status at the end of WW2, however, members of the regiment have augmented regular force units in subsequent conflicts and peacekeeping missions, most recently in Afghanistan.
Today the armouries plays host to The HPER, Air and Army Cadet units, and is the backup facility for the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), a combined Canadian Armed Forces/Canadian Coast Guard unit currently based at nearby Canadian Forces Base Trenton.
