The city of Luang Prabang is a World Heritage site, and a popular tourist destination. A small city replete with hotels, guest houses, ancient temples, French colonial architecture, tourist agencies, and lots of things to see and do. At the centre of the city is a hill, atop of which is a temple, Wat Tham Phousi, from this temple and from several places on the walk up to the temple (329 steps) views of the city can be obtained. You will be told that a 360 degree panorama of the city can be seen, but the intervening trees and temple buildings only allow a good view of the city to the east, including the Nam Khan River, not west towards the Mekong River.
