Looked after by the English Heritage, this tower was built between 1077 and 1108, although it is not known what it was built for. The lack of a fireplace, and latrine, meant this was not inhabited all the time. It may have been build as a line of defense, or as an office for administration purposes.
Currently access to this 20m tall tower is closed to the public, but does open during at certain times by appointment, by phoning the number on the website or on the local information board. Access to the grounds is available at any time, and access is free.
The information board at the waypoint co-ords are written in both English and brail
