Die Funde unterhalb des jetzigen Presbyteriums lassen sogar auf einen vorübergehenden Bischofssitz (Wanderbischof) vor dem Jahr 500 schließen. Pfaffenhofen zählt zu den ältesten Pfarren der ehemaligen Diözese Brixen, die auch urkundlich genannt sind.
