Alabama National Cemetery was dedicated June 13, 2008. It opened for burials June 25, 2009. It is located on 479 acres of former farm land. It was developed because Alabama was noted to have the most number per capita of active and retired military servicemen and women. The central region of the state lacked the services to provide a final resting place for these men and women that had given so much for their country.
At the time of this posting the cemetery contains over 1400 burials.
