The 89th Illinois Infantry Monument is located on the east side of Alexander Bridge Rd. just south of the intersection with Brothenton Rd. at the Chickamauga National Battlefield. It indicates their position on Sept. 19, 1863 from 3 to 7 pm.

This marker is dedicated to the
89th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry and is in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The 89th Illinois Infantry was organized at Chicago, Illinois and mustered into Federal service on August 27, 1862.
It marks their location on Saturday, September 19, 1863 from 3 to 7 pm. The commander of the 89th Illinois was Lieutenant Colonel Caleb Duncan J. Hall. Col. Hall was killed during the battle and Major William D. Williams commanded the regiment after his death.

Short Physical Description
7'6" x 4'4" x 4'6" high rock-faced monument consisting of rectangular granite block with an inscribed polished front on granite base. The tops of both pieces are beveled. Marks unit's position on Sept. 20, 1863, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
