• Historie horské obce Josefuv Dul je pomerne krátká. Pocátky osady spadají na zacátek 18. století a jsou spojeny se šlechtickým rodem Desfours - Walderode. Tento hrabecí rod na prelomu 17. a 18. století kolonizoval rídce obydlené Jizerské hory a založil vetšinu zdejších obcí.

• Josefuv Dul (Josef Thal) byl založen Maxmilíánem II. hrabetem Desfoursem - Walderodem roku 1701 a pojmenován byl na pocest Maxmiliánova prvorozeného syna. Podobne i ostatní osady v okolí nesou krestní jména hrabat Desfours - Walderodu: Antonínov, Karlov, Bedrichov, Maxov, Ferdinandov, Janov atd.

• Prvními osadníky v nových obcích byli ceši, až pozdeji v obyvatelstvu prevážil nemecký element.

• Život osadníku byl tvrdý, živilo je pastevectví, drevarství a uhlírství (což dokládá i název nedaleké hory „Milír“). 

• Rozvoj obci prineslo založení sklárské hute a následné zavedení knoflíkárské výroby.
  Významným milníkem v dejinách Josefova Dolu byl rok 1894, kdy byla do Josefova Dolu privedena železnice, tzv. Josefínka.

• Po Mnichovské zrade byl Josefuf Dul, stejne jako celé Jizerské hory, anektován nacistickou tretí ríší. Do ceských rukou se vrátil 5.5.1945.

• Slavná sklárna v Josefove Dole byla zavrena v roce 2002. Od té doby je Josefuv Dul odkázán jen na turistický ruch. K tomu mu pomáhá atraktivní poloha v srdci Jizerských hor. Josefuv Dul je tak ideálním východiskem výletu do centrální cásti pohorí.

Kostel v Josefove dole

• Na známce je Josefodolský chrám Promenení Páne. Jde o novogotickou jednolodní stavbu, která byla vystavena v letech 1862 až 1865.

• Dominantou kostela je špicatá zvonice vysoká 45 metru.

• Pro obyvatele Josefova Dolu byla výstavba kostela významnou událostí. K získání prostredku na svatostánek neváhali usporádat loterii a pri položení základního kamene nechali vystrelit sto delostreleckých salv.

• U kostela se nachází památník místního rodáka, spisovatele Gustava Leutelta. Jeho trpký osud ilustruje hruzy druhé svetové války – stárnoucí spisovatel, penzionovaný pedagog a velký milovník Jizerských hor nejdríve ztratil na fronte jediného syna, a po válce pri nuceném vysídlení ztratil i svuj domov.

• History of the mountain village Josefuv Dul (Josephs valley) is relatively short.

• Beginnings of settlements are associated with an aristocratic family Desfours - Walderodes. At the turn of the 17th and 18th century this count's family colonized sparsely populated Jizera moutains and established most of the local municipalities.

• Josefuf dul (or JosephThal) was founded by count Maximilian II. of Desfours - Walderode in 1701 and was named in honor of Maximilian's eldest son. Similarly, other settlements in the area bear the names of Desfours - Walderodes: Antonínov, Karlov, Bedrichov, Maxov, Ferdinandov, Janov etc.

• The first settlers in the new villages were Czechs. The German element outweighs in the population later.

• Life of the settlers was hard. They worked as heardsmen, woodcutters and charcoal-burners (as is evident by the name of a nearby mountain "Milír" (charcoal kiln)).

• Founding of glassworks brought a bloom of the village.
  An important milestone in the history of Josefuv Dul is year 1894. In this year the railway called “Josefínka” was put into operation. This railway connected Josefuv Dul with Tanvald.

• After the Munich Betrayal in 1938 Josefuf Dul and the whole Jizera mountains were annexed by the Nazi Third Reich and Czech inhabitants were banished. The village was returned to The Czech hands in May 1945 and Germany settlers were forced to leave this area.

• The famous glass factory in Josefuv Dul was closed in 2002. Since this year Josefuv Dul is dependent only on tourism. Thanks to an attractive location in the heart of the Jizera mountain Josefuv Dul is an ideal starting point for trips into the central part of the mountain range.

Church of The Transfiguration of The Lord in Josefuv Dul

• One of the most important landmarks of the village is temple of The Transfiguration of The Lord. This church is also depicted on the tourist stamp.

• The church is neo-Gothic building with one nave. It was built in years 1862 – 1865.

• 45 meters hight pointed bell tower is the dominant feature of this church.

• Near the church we can see a monument of writer Gustav Leutelt. Leutelt was a native of Josefuv Dul. His bitter fate illustrates wrongs of the World War II – Gustav Leutelt, an aging writer, retired teacher and a great lover of the Jizera mountains lost his only son at the front and after the war he lost his home because he was displaced to Germany.
