On the entrance to the old Regent Cinema is this mural to bring some life into the closed building. One could imagine the crowds and if you peer through the window panes you can still see them.

At the front is an old lady and gentleman standing outside. To the sides are crowds of people inside watching the show, having refreshments and blurring into the mists of time.
The building was opened in 1928 by Lord Beauchamp as the Pavilion Theatre. It was not a success so was transformed into the Regent Cinema in 1933. It was the largest cinema in Deal with a capacity of 911 until the Odeon Cinema opened in 1936. King Kong was the most popular film between 1933 and 1946.
ASER Cinemas took over in the 1940s but customer numbers dropped in the 1950s until the cinema closed in 1963 and was turned into a bingo hall. Today it stands empty awaiting redevelopment.
