This Monument to the 123 Illinois Infantry Regiment is located along a wooded path, east of Lafayette Rd and south of Vinyard-Alexander Rd in the Chickamauga National Battlefield. Plaque is missing.

This monument is dedicated to the
123rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment and is in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The 84th Illinois Infantry was organized at Camp Terry, Mattoon, Coles County, Illinois and mustered into Federal service on September 6, 1862. It marks their location from Friday September 18 at 7:00 p.m until Saturday, September 19, 1863, at 4:00 p.m. The commander of the 123rd Illinois was Colonel James Monroe.

Short Physical Description
7'6" x 4'4" x 4'6" high rock-faced monument consisting of rectangular granite block with an inscribed polished front on granite base. The tops of both pieces are beveled. Marks unit's position from Sept. 18, 7:00 p.m. to Sept. 19, 4:00 a.m.
