This large War Department boundary stone
marked WD 62 is sited in
Maxwell Road in Brompton, Kent. The stone has had a new boundary wall built
around it in such a manner as it blocks the 'face' of the boundary stone. It
sits alongside
land on which a former Garrison Hospital had stood.
Maxwell Road was once part of Military Road, a communication road serving the
Chatham Lines and Forts. This road originally ran from St Mary's Island over in
the north and all the way to Fort Pitt over in the south. Nowadays, only one
small stretch of it retains that original name of Military Road, and is located
in Chatham town centre.

What indicators are near the mark to help people identify where it is located?: This stone is in Maxwell Road, about 60m South of Garden Street on the right hand side of the road as you head for the Garrison Church.
