This War Department boundary stone, marked WD 101, is
sited in Mansion Row at its junction with Maxwell Road in Brompton, Kent.
Mansion Row and Maxwell Road were once both part of Military Road, a
communication road serving the Chatham Lines and Forts. This road originally ran
from St Mary's Island over in the north and all the way to Fort Pitt over in the
south. Mansion Row was built along the edge of Military Road in the mid to
late 18th century, and housed military officers. Nowadays, only one small
stretch of it retains that original name of Military Road, and is located in
Chatham town centre.
