On May 2, 2011, the Field of Honor Memorial, paying lasting tribute to Soldiers of Fort Bliss who lost their lives during Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn, was unveiled. The emotional dedication ceremony, attended by Family members of the fallen, members of Fort Bliss Command, dignitaries and friends, included the reading of the names of 53 Soldiers from Fort Bliss who gave their life in the name of liberty. Plaques with their names inscribed rest majestically on its curved granite wall.

Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation conceived of the Field of Honor at Fort Bliss in 2008 and began arrangements for the development of the memorial. However, the Department of the Army placed a moratorium on the acceptance of monuments and memorials as a result of a pending U.S. Supreme Court case. The Court ultimately voted against the case and as a result the Department of the Army lifted the moratorium, allowing the Foundation to recommence development of the Field of Honor. The construction and landscaping of the Field of Honor was completed in spring 2011.

A gently curving granite wall depicts the ultimate strength that yields to righteousness while cascading waters represent the very essence of life, constantly in motion and ever-changing. Trees and shrubs line the walkways, providing a colorful, seasonal backdrop to a dramatic stage that includes remembrances of recently-fallen Soldiers and plaques of appreciation for those who have so generously contributed to its creation and maintenance. Following paved walkways or quietly seated on garden benches, visitors may reflect, remember, praise or give thanks as they are individually inspired.

Approximately 102 tons of concrete and more than 7.75 tons of granite were used in its construction. Over 210 gallons of water flow over the granite per minute from a pool that contains over 3,700 gallons and is lit by underwater lights. Approximately 30 trees and 150 shrubs and flowers surround it. At night, 35 lights illuminate the Monument.
