Kunming, the "City of Eternal Spring", is a transport hub for the province of Yunnan and the surrounding regions. There are at least three major bus stations in the city, this one deals with travel to the south of the city and province, hence it is labelled the 'Southern Bus Station'.
This is clearly a new bus station. It is also large, busy, and filled with lots of people. The station building is divided into two halves, the front half sells tickets, after this one passes through security into a waiting area. Outside this area dozens of buses arrive and depart from parts southward. Beyond the building is a large parking area for more buses.
There is essentially no English language used here so have you destination written down on paper (or your phone). Surprisingly, there were no shops in the station area, no one was selling drinks, snacks, or whatnot. I do not know if this will be corrected or is a new development. I did not have the opportunity to take an overall photo of the station. My mini-bus to the station swept in to the entrance way, and then I had only a few minutes to get organised and be on my way. This station is quiet a ways from the city centre.
