This village sign was carved in Portland Stone by Simon Buchanan. It depicts a large cockerel above carved letters spelling DETLING within which are a carved sea shell and two apples. Either side upon brick pillars are a carved badger and a carved Woodpecker. Four Portland Stone plaques are set in the brick work that supports the sculpture. It is reputed to be the most expensive village sign in the UK.
