"Dortmund folgte und erlebte sogar gleich zwei Bücherverbrennungen. Am 30. Mai 1933 - also heute vor 75 Jahren - brannten Bücher auf dem Hansaplatz und wenige Tage später auf dem Aplerbecker Markt.
„Es war ein Protest gegen die geistige Freiheit. Die Freiheit des Denkens und der Toleranz passte nicht in das nationalsozialistische Weltbild”, berichtet Ulrich Moeske, Leiter der Stadt- und Landesbibliothek. Das besonders Erschreckende: Die Bücherverbrennungen wurden nicht etwa zentral angeordnet. „Sie wurden vor allem von den faschistischen Studentenbünden in die Hand genommen”, berichtet Marco Bülow, der mit Erich G. Fritz eine Lesenacht der „Verbrannten Autoren” initiiert hat. „Denn die Führung war sich nicht sicher, ob die Bevölkerung reif dafür ist”, so Bülow.
