The Heritage Branch of the NSW Government's Office of Environment & Heritage describe this heritage listed former courthouse as:
A small late Victorian courthouse in the "Federation Romanesque" style (with some "Victorian Tudor" detailing). The building is of one storey and constructed of local dark grey basalt with sandstone used for gable finials, window and door surrounds, buttresses, chimneys and ventilators. All stonework is rock faced laid in coursed random pattern as is the front fence to both street frontages. The two building wings are arranged at right angles and are roofed with Marseilles tiled gabled roofs with exposed eaves rafters. A massively arched and buttressed colonnade with a flat roof links the two wings. The windows are small vertical openings giving a fortress-like effect reinforced by the massive gables, buttresses and splayed fence and gate piers. The building appears to be in excellent condition and relatively in tact. New records and witness rooms were added in 1953 by the Government Architect Cobden Parkes. The verandah has since been enclosed in glass without frames.
