Un fort en bois construit à cet endroit en 1634, marque le berceau des Trois-Rivières qui devint un des centres du commerce des fourrures avec les indiens. Il soutint plusieurs sièges de la part des Iroquois et fut démoli à la suite du traité de paix conclu avec eux en 1668.
The text on the plaque reads as follows:
A wooden fort built on this spot, in 1634, became the cradle of Three Rivers, and a centre for fur-trade with the indians. It was besieged on several occasions by the Iroquois and demolished after the Treaty of Peace with them in 1668.
