The hamlet of Muncheon-ri in Cheongan Village has chosen "Scarecrow Village" as its identity. There are several places where these scarecrows are located, including this one. This is the largest display found here at the main (south) entrance.
Each figure is 6-7 feet tall, made of fiberglass mounted on a steel pole. They are dressed in traditional Korean country clothes.
This welcome sign has an outline of a scarecrow in a field, slight pink on the blue background with white lettering. The symbol of the city of Gongju, of which it is officially a part of, is in the upper left corner. Gongju is known as the center of the old Baekje Kingdom.
There are several sets of scarecrows located here at the main (south) entrance to Muncheon-ri (hamlet), Cheongan Village - officially part of the city of Gongju, Korea.
There are many acres of chestnut farms in this rural village near the city of Gongju, Korea. This area accounts for about 12% of the chestnut production in the country. There is an annual Chestnut Festival here in the fall.
Also by this sign are several sets of large scarecrows, and a couple of carved wooden totems, a traditional shamanistic element placed at the entrance to a village or other place. Across the road is a map of the area. (See photo gallery for these).
