Eastry's war memorial is sited in the
grounds of St Mary's Church, Church Street, Eastry.
The war memorial, a stone cross upon a stone hexagonal stepped plinth, lists
thirty five men of the village that fell in the Great
War and fourteen who fell in WW2. An additional stone at the base of the
memorial lists two further WW1 casualties and four from conflicts since. The men are listed
on five of the six panels, the front panel inscription reads; four either
side of the inscription; IN / GRATEFUL MEMORY/ OF/ THE MEN OF THIS/ PARISH WHO
FELL/ TIN THE GREAT WARS /1914 - 1918/ AND/ 1939-1945. Around the top of the
five other panels is inscribed THEIR/ NAME/ LIVETH/ FOR/ EVERMORE.
The memorial was unveiled by Lord
Northbourne on December 1st 1920.
