In 1995, then University President Bill L. Atchley established this small rose garden "In appreciation for all you have done for the University", honoring the First Ladies of the first four University Presidents (Knoles, Burns, McCaffrey and Atchley). The text of the primary plaque, dedicating the garden, reads:
First Lady's Rose Garden
University of the Pacific
June 1, 1995
Additional plaques provide details regarding the four First Ladies (names and years of service).
