Sgraffito is a technique of applying layers of colored plaster or ceramic to a moistened surface, then scratching the surface, to produce an outline drawing or texture. Just this technique was used for decoration of a façade of Town Hall in Mladá Boleslav. This splendid Renaissance building of the Old Town Hall, decorated richly with graffiti ornamental and figure decorations, erected in 1554 – 1559, was designed by the Italian architect Matteo Borgorelli. Its main facade is decorated with graffiti – scenes from the Old and New Testament, figures of the evangelists and saints. One can find here all of four Evangelist - Mark, Luke, John and Mathew, St. Peter, St. Paul and other Patron Saints. In the centre there is St Wenceslaus - Saint Patron of Bohemia and under there is an Latin inscription „Iustitiam diligite qui iudicatis terram. Concordia parvae res crescunt.“
