This area of South Chungcheong Province claims the chestnut as their trademark product. This farm sprawls along the hillside north of a small stream. Most of the trees appear to be young.

This farm was visited just at the beginning of spring before the trees had begun to leaf out. The estimated size is about 100 acres, although the boundaries are not clear.
Across the stream there is a resort area called "Chestnut Village" with lodging, picnic area, and displays related to chestnut farming. According to the Korea Herald, this area accounts for about 12% of all of the chestnut production in the country, and Gongju has an annual Chestnut Festival in the fall.
Chestnuts may be found roasting on the street in small stands, but they are also used in several traditional dishes as part of the regular cuisine.
