Surrounding the Maryland State House are several dedication markers or plaques of various kinds. One is a marker for a dedicated tree, a large White Oak tree that grows between the grassy space between two walkways for pedestrian traffic to move around the yard of State Circle. It is a large tree, but the dedication marker is not so big. It is easily overlooked and passed by. Nonetheless, it is there to see if you are watchful as you walk the pathways.

The dedication marker states:
"The Freedom Tree
With the vision of universal freedom for all mankind this tree is dedicated to all POW and MIA's of Maryland and all Prisoners of War and Missing in Action.
1973"
