Originally intended as a Millennium
celebration project by the Parish Council in the late 90's, the revamp of the
Parade, an area in front of the small row of shops in the High Street, took 10
years to fulfil. Various funding and planning setbacks meant that the
project was not completed until 2008. However, with much hard work, by many
people over the preceding years to keep the project on track, the official opening event
took place on Friday 26th September
2008. Retired Eastry Parish Councillor Mr Donald Eldridge, one of the original
instigators of the Parade Project cut a ceremonial ribbon. Centre piece to the
new Parade is a large circular mosaic of a trefoil flower, know as a symbol of
the Blessed Virgin Mary, to whom the village church is dedicated, and has been
copied from one of the medieval frescoes at the church. It is the official logo
for both the village school and now Eastry Parish Council. The mosaic is the
work of Dover stonemasons Cleverly & Spencer.
