The pub sign reputedly shows a Talbot, but they were nearly always white.

The Talbot is an ancient breed of hunting dog almost always white but sometimes shown with spots, never like the sign of The Talbot Head shown here, which is more like a Fox Hound. It is now extinct as a breed because of its lack of purpose and need for constant care. The Talbot is one of only two dog breeds used in heraldry, the other is the Greyhound.

The Talbot Head, formerly the Talbot Hotel, is a Grade II listed mid C18th painted brick inn, built on an older core. Of two-storeys with a five window range it has modern plain tile roofs behind a parapet. There is a forward break to the centre with a pediment, formerly with a bulls-eye window, but now plain. There are exposed box glazing bar sashes with gauged brick flat heads to the 1st floor outer windows and formerly also to the ground floor, replaced circa 1910 by large projecting leaded light pub windows. The centre 1st floor palladian window has intersecting bars to a round head, below there is a similar round headed door with narrow flanking lights. There is a rear wall brick stack and a small gabled extension. To the rear there is a large rear range to Court Street, of painted brick, two-storey with a hipped roof, one dormer and a ridge stack. Four windows range, one blank, with cambered head openings.

This pub has been recently refurbished and reopened under a new owner, offering a fantastic warm welcome and comfortable environment with great offers on both food and drink. Open 7 days a week, Function room, Beer garden, Bar snacks, Restaurant, Home cooked food, Car park, Live music, Disabled access, Darts, 3 TVs, Real ales, with changing guest ale, Draught beers.
