The historic Amherst Fire Department bell is tucked into the southeast corner of the Fire Department Headquarters building on North Pleasant Street.

The Amherst Fire Department has its historic bell from 1888 on display on the corner of the headquarters building at 68 North Pleasant Street. The bell is placed on a circular concrete platform and has inscriptions on the front and the back. Although, due to its position, few persons today have ever seen the inscription on the back. This inscription now has been reveal for the world to see.
The front of the bell is inscribed in incised letters:
AMHERST FIRE DEPARTMENT.
JUNE, 1888

The back of the bell is inscribed in embossed letters:
