This park is names in honour of Susan Auch, world class speed skater who was born and raised in Transcona.
Sudan Auch began competitive speed skating in 1975 and has participated in numerous competitions at local, national and world championship levels. A few of Susan's outstanding accomplishments include: Two 500-metre long track Olympic Silver Medals - Nagano (1998) - Lillehammer (1994), short track relay Bronze Medal Winner - Calgary Olympics (1988), three first place 500-metre World Cup Medals and six time overall Canadian Sprint Champion. Susan was the first Canadian woman to break the 39 second barrier in the 500-metre speed skating event.
Susan was presented with the Province of Manitoba's highest honour, "The Order of the Buffalo Hunt" with the rank of Provost on April 9, 1998 for her world wide accomplishments.
