This plaque to Scribner’s Brigade is along a path north of Winfrey’s Field on Brotherton Rd, Chickamauga National Battlefield (see directions @ end). It describes the actions of the brigade in the late afternoon and early evening of Sept.19, 1863.

This plaque describes the actions on Scribner’s Brigade during the Battle of Chickamauga fought September 19–20, 1863. Scribner’s Brigade was commanded by Col. Benjamin F. Scribner and consisted of the 38th Indiana, 2d Ohio, 33d Ohio, 94th Ohio, 10th Wisconsin, and Battery A 1st Michigan Light Artillery. The plaque is blue indicating that was a Union brigade. The plaque describes the actions of the brigade in the late afternoon and early evening of September 19, 1863. There are four plaques to Scribner’s Brigade on the battlefield.

Upon arriving upon this ground from the Glade North the Kelly Field
the brigade recovered many of its wounded of the morning fight. At dusk,
while advancing on the left of Starkweather’s Brigade, which was then
moving into action on the left of Johnson’s Division, Scribner’s Brigade made
a slight wheel to the right in the gloom, while Starkweather's made a
similar movement to the left and the two brigades fired into each other,
adding immensely to the confusion of the night attack. At the close of the
engagement which lasted over an hour, both brigades fell back to the
Kelly Field.

Directions: I parked at the Winfrey Field on Brotherton Rd. There are several monuments along the north side of Winfrey Field. Take the path along the western edge of the field to the 33rd Ohio Infantry Regiment Marker. There is a second trail along the northern edge of the field, follow this path to the 93rd Ohio Infantry Regiment Monument. Just west of this monument, there is a trail leading in to the wooded area north of the Winfrey Field. Follow this path until it intersects another path at the Twenty-Fourth Illinois Infantry Marker. Head west to the Scribner Brigade plaque.
