In addition to connecting to the Finger Lakes Trail at the south end, the Genesee Greenway Trail connects to the Erie Canal Heritage Trail, which uses the old towpaths on a roughly East-West axis, and with the Genesee Riverway Trail, which extends an additional 18 miles north to Lake Ontario. It also intersects the Lehigh Valley Trail, which is another Rails-to-Trails project.
The Friends of Genesee Greenway Trails website (Finding the Greenway) (
visit link) recommends starting in the swimming pool parking lot of Genesee Valley Park, and following the Genesee Riverway Trail to the trailhead. The parking coordinates listed below are to a parking area designated for trail users. To traverse the Riverway Trail from end-to-end from there would require that you hike north for about 1 mile to reach the trailhead, and double back to the parking area, and continue south from there. (Sight of an old railroad bridge makes it a worthwhile "detour", I assure you.)
