This "engine is a 1915 American locomotive used in the yard of the St. Paul railroad system. The engine and the coal car were sold to a private owner in Rochester, MN and later sold again to the museum site".
"In 1977, a small group of citizens embarked on the long and often frustrating task of erecting a memorial to those hardy pioneers who stayed with this, often wild land. The purpose was to collect wheels from all facets of their lives, agricultural, railroad and automotive...plus all the little wheels, which helped this country grow and prosper. The Wheels Across the Prairie Museum opened its doors on June 1, 1985, to share the story with visitors". (Quoted From www.wheelsacrosstheprairie.org)
Tracy Minnesota is along the Dakota Minnesota and Eastern mainline. The line was purchased in 1986 from the Chicago Northwestern and runs from Winona Minnesota west to Rapid City South Dakota. In September of 2007 the DM&E was sold to Canadian Pacific and today remains a very active rail location with a rich CNW heritage.
