The Ladder Company 21 & Engine Company 34 share a fire station on West 38th Street in Manhattan. A 9/11 memorial is located between the doors separating these units of the New York Fire Department. Of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives that day seven were from Ladder Company 21. Seven bronze plaques in memory of these firefighters who died responding to the World Trade Center alarm on September 11, 2001 are attached to the wall above a 9/11 memorial for all fallen firefighters.

The 9/11 memorial contains a piece of re-bar in the form of a cross mounted on a piece of steel beam, both salvaged from the World Trade Center. A plaque on the beam is inscribed:
