The palace was built by King Afonso (illegitimate son of King John I), between the years 1420 -1422, by the time of his second marriage to D. Constance de Noronha (daughter of the Count of Gijón and Noronha).
This manor house was inhabited mainly during the fifteenth century. In the following century there was a gradual abandonment and a consequent collapse (motivated by political and economic factors), a state that was aggravated by the twentieth century.
Between 1937 and 1959 there was a large and complex restoration intervention.The palace is classified as National Monument since 1910.

O Paço foi mandado construir por D. Afonso (filho ilegítimo do rei D. João I), entre os anos de 1420 -1422, por altura do seu segundo casamento com D. Constança de Noronha (filha do conde de Gijón e Noronha).
Esta moradia senhorial foi essencialmente habitada durante o século XV. Na centúria seguinte assistiu-se a um progressivo abandono e a uma consequente ruína (motivada por factores políticos e económicos), estado que se agravou até ao século XX.
Entre 1937 e 1959 realizou-se uma ampla e complexa intervenção de restauro.O paço encontra-se classificado como Monumento Nacional desde 1910.
