The pub's website (visit link) tells us:

"A pub has been located on our premesis for over 200 years, and our cellar dates back to the 1600s. The pub is located in the heart of old Dickensian London, in close proxmity to The Old Curiousity Shop and several other landmarks familiar to readers of Charles Dickens' works.

What's more, legend has it that the "Great White Horse" pub featured in Dickens' "The Pickwick Papers" is an ode to one of his favourite neighbourhood pubs of a slightly similar name.
"

The sign shows a white shire horse with a man hand feeding it.
