um - Gum?

Not sure how the two might be related but that is all that is left of this painted sign that at one time was quite large and easily viewed from both pedestrians and automobiles travelling east on 8th Avenue.

This sign is now visible from 9th Avenue or the alley behind 8th Avenue.
