The sign shows an illustration in subtle tones with six acorns and oak leaves. They are framed in beads and a cross appears at the top, perhaps to mark this historic route to Canterbury?

The main A290 road is a historic route both for salt transportation from Whitstable to Canterbury and as a Turnpike road to the city. It was once the main way to Canterbury used by pilgrims heading to the Cathedral, but today the A2 road relieves the traffic through this quaint area.
