Located on Fountain Way, the Scott Memorial Fountain is a large white marble masterpiece from Detroit's Golden Era. Since 1994, the fountain and Fountain Way have been lined with beautiful Japanese cherry trees, a gift from Japan.
A plaque, seated in a large rock, sits to the south of the fountain and to the west of Albert Kahn's Belle Isle Casino. The plaque reads:
"These 100 Japanese Cherry Trees
planted around the Scott Lagoon
have been donated to the people of Detroit
as a token of our friendship and goodwill jointly by
the Japan Business Society of Detroit, and
the citizens of Toyota, Japan
A sister city of Detroit, Michigan on
April 19, 1994."
In full bloom, the Japanese Cherry Trees can be seen from the parks across the waters in Windsor, Ontario Canada.
