The Model 18, or "Twin Beech", as it is better known, is a 6–11 seat, twin-engine, low-wing, conventional-gear aircraft that was manufactured by the Beech Aircraft Corp of Wichita, KS. This model saw military service during and after WW II in a number of versions including the US Army Air Forces (USAAF) C-45 Expeditor, AT-7 Navigator, AT-11 Kansan; and for the US Navy (USN), UC-45J Navigator and the SNB-1 Kansan.

In addition to carrying passengers, non-military uses have included aerial spraying, sterile insect release, fish seeding, dry ice cloud seeding, aerial firefighting, airborne mail pick up and drop, ambulance service, numerous movie productions, skydiving, freight, gun/drug-smuggling, engine test bed, skywriting and banner towing. The Model 18 was the first aircraft flown by Philippine Airlines, Asia's first and oldest airline. Many are now in private hands as prized collectibles.

The C-45's first flight was on 15 January 1937 and introduced in 1937. More than 9,000 of 32 variants have been built.

This aircraft, C-45H s/n 52-10865, was one of 432 'H' models built at the Beechcraft Wichita, KS, production line, and was accepted by the USAF in August 1954. She was immediately assigned to the 191st Fighter Bomber Squadron of the Utah Air National Guard as a transport aircraft. In May of 1958, she was transferred to the 151st Consolidated Logistics Maintenance Squadron, also with the Utah Air National Guard. She served with this unit until August 1960, when she was flown to Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ, for storage. In February of 1963, she was dropped from the USAF inventory and sold to a civilian operator. It came on the civil registry as N87694 and was operated by the Department of Agriculture, thereafter it was delivered to the Travis Air Museum. The C-45H has been restored to mid-1950's USAF markings by the Museum's volunteers.
