The mill on the river was in operation until the 1960's, when the water wheels were removed. The buildings now house a lumber yard.
It was built by William Chisholm in 1857, and has remained in the family ever since. The mill held a contract for Purina pet foods from the 1940's until the 1970's, as well as the lumber business.
The Purina signs are still visible on the mill. The back (road) side feature the ghosted images of the Chisholm Mills - Purina Chows lettering can still be seen. In fact, if you squint just right, you can see the old logo underneath the newer one!
